Your pet’s health is our main concern, we like to focus on preventive medicine whenever possible.
To help your pet remain healthy it is important to have a physical examination at least once a year. At this time we can also help answer any questions you may have regarding your pet’s health or behavior. We can provide you with updated information on current recommendations for preventive health care such as vaccinations, parasite control and zoonotic disease along with assessing your pet’s overall health and nutritional status.

Our veterinarians do provide many surgical services, ranging from routine to advanced procedures. Because we want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally refer them to specialists (board-certified veterinary surgeons) to perform complex operations when advanced equipment or training will be beneficial. Our veterinary team will take precautions to ensure that your pet receives a safe anesthetic. We perform a physical exam and pre-anesthetic testing before surgery, monitor your pet during surgery, and provide pain medication during recovery.

Dental disease is the most common diseases we encounter in dogs and cats and in most cases one of the most preventable. We recommend, at least once a year a veterinarian should evaluate your pet’s dental health. As part of our preventive health care, we do a thorough oral examination whenever possible, and may recommend brushing, dental treats, and/or a dental cleaning in the clinic. We carry certain products which can assist in pet oral health. Bad teeth, left untreated, can cause pain and infection in our dogs and cats. This can be mild, or serious, and may affect your pet’s overall health. Dental disease can affect other organs in the body: such as kidney infections, liver disease, lung disease, and heart valve disease.

Microchipping is a safe, permanent way to identify your pet in case he or she becomes lost. A microchip is a tiny device about the size of a grain of rice which is placed just under the loose skin at the back of the neck. When a lost dog or cat without an ID tag is found, our team will use a handheld microchip scanner to check for a chip. If the pet has one, it will transmit its ID number to the scanner. The veterinary hospital then calls the chip manufacturer, retrieves the pet owner’s contact information, and calls the owner.

If your dog or cat is healthy, you may have chosen a pet food based simply on whether or not your pet will eat it. Cost may also play a factor in your decision. Not all pet foods are equal and feeding the right amount is not as simple as following the directions on the package (they’re just guidelines). Choosing an appropriate diet can set your pet on a path of lifelong good nutrition and help prevent many problems such as: allergies, nutritional deficiencies, skin and coat disorders, and obesity.
Our veterinarians can help you make informed decisions about your pet’s diet. We can counsel you on which foods will be appropriate based on your pet’s needs and your financial considerations, how much to feed, and even how to interpret over the counter pet food labels. We can create a nutrition plan for your pet, and can also work with you to help reduce overweight pets down to a healthy weight. We have a free nutritional counseling program – called SLIMFIT – that will help your pet reach his or her ideal weight.

Regardless of size, we see them all, we have a special interest in exotic animals. These family members deserve to be healthy and have proper medical attention too. While most exotic animals don’t require annual vaccines, they do require an annual checkup.
Our veterinarians are experienced in providing specialized care and treatment for exotic companion animals, including parrots and smaller avian species, ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, lizards and snakes. We understand their unique health needs and can provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services, as well as counseling on nutrition, behavior, and general care.

Digital radiography provides a very high quality image that allows better visualization of bones and soft tissue, also allowing us to manipulate the images to help improve our ability to make a diagnosis. These images are captured and can be shown to you on any computer in the hospital within minutes. These images are saved as part of your pet’s electronic health record and kept on file. If your pet’s images need to be reviewed by a board certified radiologist, the availability of digital images means that we can have them e-mailed thus having results in a more timely fashion.
